Dutch FA admiting 26 mistakes of the judge regardless of the presence of VAR
The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) announced on Wednesday that despite the presence of VAR, 26 reference errors were made during the Eredivisie season 2024/25.
Raymond Van Menene, head of the Judge’s ICC, announced the numbers Wednesday at the Association’s headquarters in Zeist.
Van Menen said the mistakes were made in situations in which the Authority has had to intervene, such as direct red cards, punishment situations and goals.
The number of errors, 26 years old, is a significant decrease from last year, when the ICNV admitted 37 judgment errors.

“Everyone’s mistake is a lot,” Van Menene said. “However, football is an interpretation sport, and it is utopian to think you can reduce the number of errors to zero. However, we still want to continue to reduce the number.”
In 306 Eredivisia games last season, 107 VAR checks were reported. VAR and the judge made an accurate decision on 81 cases.
Protest
Van Menene also announced that judges in Eredivisie will act more proactively against protests by players.
“We will take a stricter approach. It is important for the football image that the highest level gives a good example.”
Eredivisie will INFRINGES Friday, August 8.
