Slavia Prague continues to boast one of the best defensive records in Europe
Regardless of the end result of the Czech League, one thing was safe for the last eight seasons: Slavia Prague always praised the best defense.
Jindiich Trpisovsky’s main coach, who took the team in December 2018. year and is in charge of all eight seasons, the main reason for SlavijaTotal dominance in this regard. Moreover, the club was not just the best defensive team in the Czech League during this period, but also one of the best in the first 10 European leagues.
Trpisovski emphasis on defense is obvious. In those eight seasons, his side had the most productive attack after the regular season on five occasions, but their focus was always on the background, even when they were not the best in the league.
This is a beautifully illustrated season just before the Trpisovski arrival, in which Slavija won the title under Jaroslav Silhavy, scoring as many goals as possible bashing more than the second placing Plzen.
But for Trpisovski, who work from behind, he was still simply a priority. “We want to lean on our defensive line, it’s a long-term trend,” he said last August.
Result? Only 11 goals recently received in 30 rounds this season, in 20. from which Slavija kept a clean sheet. In the 2019/20 season, there were only better (10 goals recieved with 22 closed).
These are outstanding numbers, not just in the context of the Czech League, as well as the Red and Belca coach I noticed.
“We have the smallest goals in league and oldest leaves in Europe. When I look at large teams in top competitions, they don’t play so much dominant games” He said after the last game against Slovakia, in which his team (as usual) did not admit. Although he spoke only about the current season, his words are valid for the last eight seasons.

At that time, he received 170 goals in 269 league games (an average of 0.63 per game), which is best in more than 10 European League (according to existing UEFA competitions), but also with comparative competitions from neighboring countries (Austria and Poland).
Only clubs with at least 200 played games were taken for that. Else in this rank is FC Porto (268 matches / 187 goals against / average 0.70), the third is Benfica (268/209 / 0.77).
Slavia also clearly rule Europe in the number of pure leaves, which collected 144 in eight years. Only Porto (135) managed to do in a large majority of their games (54%) followed by giants Manchester City (131), Barcelona and Atletico Madrid (129).
Now the question is in front of them, if it doesn’t want to win the title, but rather when. As Czech Champions, a place is guaranteed in the main phase of the Champions League next year and there will go there as the European King of Defense.
Their 20 pure sheets this season are aligned with nine clubs with 15 (including JuventusNapoli, Porto), while their closest competitor with 11 goals acknowledged Poland Czestochowa (19, with one game less).

Advanced data show that Slavija does not even allow the opponent in dangerous situations. Of the 213 clubs that were monitored, they faced the second least number of attempts to target (212) and accurate staff on target (69). Just Bayern Munich They are better in both metrics (192, 66).
A total of four of its 11 goals against headers, which is an average number in Europe (for example, Napoli There is no one). However, this does not mean that the Ces have weakness in the air.
After all, the Czech League is characterized by a huge scope of crosses, and among 10 clubs with the largest number taken by the aircraft duel, five is from the Czech summer.
Slavia are ranked 27. in Europe (and 10 in the Czech League) with 1,150 such duels. However, they still have a great success rate of 57.2% with 658 defeated headers and are on the continent that stands only Inter Milan (58.8%) and Rapid Vienna (57.7%).
They are then the second in the number of presses. They only have a total of 503 Cercle Brugge (636 in four games more) is better in this regard.
For example, the fourth place of Barcelona (477) stands behind Slavija. The powder side is also one of the top teams in terms of percentage of successful attempts to turn the ball from the opponent.
At 64.1%, it is 16. Highest in Europe, and it is interesting only something above average in the Czech Republic. They are only fifth in league, with Banik Ostrava Have the highest speed of success (and on all leagues) with 68.6%.
The next season will be very interesting to see how the best defense of the continent will drive on harder competitions against the best attacks.
