Paula Badosa withdraws from open Madrid with constant back injury

The number of the Spanish world nine Paula Badosa announced on Friday its withdrawal from Madrid Open due to a constant damage to the lower back.

“I wanted to let you know that unfortunately I will not be able to play Mutua Madrid Open,” the former two world -world said on social media.

“I have tried to do everything possible until the last moment because you know how excited I am to play at home, but it’s a tricky injury.

“Hope to be 100 percent soon,” Badosa added.

The 27-year-old has not taken to court since he retired in the 16th phase of Miami Open in March with a back problem.

Badosa was scheduled to make her return Friday to the second round in Madrid but the compatriot Cristina Bucsa now takes its place in the main draw Veronika KudderMova of Russia.

Before starting the tournament, Badosa alluded to its possible attraction, telling the WTA page: “It was a severe injury, frankly, because it was completely different from the last one. It was an injury that was affecting the nerves, so I constantly had pain.

“Everyday I’m feeling a little better. Hope I’ll be my 100 percent soon. Not now, but soon.”

Badosa has fought regularly with injuries throughout her career, with a chronic lower back problem leading her to consider the pension last year.

Its withdrawal from Madrid follows that of Spanish friend Carlos Alcarazwho withdrew on Thursday with a thigh issue he suffered during his last defeat in Barcelona Open last weekend.
