Irritated Lewis Hamilton suffers the rotary knockout in the sprint qualification
A seated Lewis Hamilton said he had never before had a spin like the one who overthrew him from Sprint qualifying to the Belgian Grand Prix on Friday, while Ferrari’s teammate Charles Leclerc qualified the fourth.
But the gloomy seven-time champion in the world was cleaned by the fault by the veteran commentator and the former F1 Martin Brundle, who said the rear axle HamiltonFerrari “exploded under brake”.
Brundle said it was “very unusual”, adding: “I don’t think there is someone more surprised by this than Lewis Hamilton.
“Looks like a technical issue. No one will be more surprised than Lewis. Almost almost like the type of engine stuck out and whenever he attracted another change, it’s just closed back axle.”
Hamilton ended up qualifying the 18th on the network with 20 cars just 24 hours after his highly charged comments to win a championship in Ferrari and not suffering the condition of many other former champions Fernando Alonso AND Vettel Sebastian.
He fought throughout the day in the widespread and magnificent Bath County -Francorchamps – one of his favorites – and ran extensively in Stavelot early in SQ1 before his rotation in Chicane.
Hamilton said he had never experienced that kind of rotation before.
Faced with reporters later, he was asked what he had gone wrong and replied: “I spin.”
He added that it was “the first time, I think, in my career” that he had rotated that way.
“There is not really much to say,” he added. “Of course, I’m massively frustrated.
“A lot of work has come inside and being there is not really great. So hopefully tomorrow is better.”
