Oscar Oscar Oscar Piastri turned the sprint disappointment in motivation to win Spa Grand Prix

Oscar Piastri said he turned his personal disappointment in motivation to succeed Sunday after he produced an impressive car for his sixth season victory in the Rain Delayed Grand Prix.

The 24-year-old Australian was disappointed with himself on Saturday when he was beaten by the title rival and McLaren Team-Mate Lando Norris In the qualification for Sunday’s race, but he turned the tables with a masterful action a passing action after a rolling start on a wet path.

He then hanged and, after retiring to move from the sliding brokers, he reached his intricate middle tires perfectly to stand in front of Norris, running on a stronger stable tire, in the closing stages to win and extend his lead in the title race at 16 points.

“I knew the lap would probably be my best chance to win the race,” stated plates. “I got a good exit out of the bend one and then got up a little while I dumped across the Eau Rouge and it was enough.

“The rest of the race we got really well. I was fighting a little at the end – so maybe the medium was not the best for the last five or six laps, but we had it mostly under control, which is what I wanted.

“I was very disappointed with myself after yesterday, but it turns out that the second start in the bath is not very bad after all!”

He added that he was concerned that the beginning of the rotation, after four laps behind the security machine, would reduce his chance of grabbing the initiative, but showed that he was sharp and focused taking advantage of Norris in the first opportunity.

“I got a good exit from the one turn one and I was able to stay close and then, when I was going close, I just knew I would raise a little less than Lando (Norris) and I would try it and keep it on the right track.

“It was a little alive up over the hill, but I managed to make it climb and then, from there, the attraction helped me.”

‘Hard Conditions’

He said he knew the tire strategy would be critical and waited for Norris’s decision to make strong tires – the only driver who did so when the rest went to the media.

“I had the same plan if I were second, so I knew it would be a possible decision for Lando. For me, the medium was the safest tire to be at that point.

“Never know if someone will fall and there is a security machine and want a medium for resumption. Also, the medium looked good at Sprint yesterday, so I think it didn’t make a lot of changes.

“But when you are fighting like that, one-two, you will always try to get an advantage in one way or another.”

Norris acknowledged that he did not do enough to win the race while slipping 16 points after the championship after 13 of the 24 competitions.

“He had a better start and he deserved it today,” Said Norris, who made three mistakes in difficult conditions.

“It is up to, do, do-a, can-a … Oscar deserved it. I am sure he would have made some mistakes and I would review mine. It is a great result for the first 1-2 team here in many years.”

It was the first Belgian triumph of McLaren since Janny button Acquired by Pole in 2012
