Co-president England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales will not be automatically in the 2028 European Championship final and must go through qualification, although two points are reserved if they fail.

The decision was taken by the executive committee of the European Body UEFA on Wednesday in Bilbao in front of the Europa League final.

The host or co-junction have automatically qualified for the euro in the latest publications, banning the 2020 tournament which had no automatic bed as it was held in 11 host cities throughout Europe.

The four co-companies will be drawn into separate groups, with 12 group winners and eight best runners (20 teams) progressing directly to the last tournament with 24 teams.

“Two points in the final tournament will be reserved for the two best ranking countries who are not qualified as group winners or better runners after the end of the qualifying group phase“UEFA said in a statement.

The remaining points will be assigned through the Play off between the remaining runners in the qualifying groups and the winners of the non-qualified UEFA group 2026/27 UEFA Nations League.

If both co-perpetrator-reserved electronic games are used, then eight teams will compete on two two-point trails, with one-legged semifinals and one final.

If only a reserved qualifying slot is used, then 12 teams will compete in three paths, such as the system used for Euro 2024.

If there are no reserved qualifying slots, which means all four co-junctions qualify, then eight teams will play four home links and away Play off to qualify.

Euro 2028 will be held in nine countries in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

England ended up runners at Euro 2024 while Scotland collapsed in the group phase. Wales and Ireland did not qualify for last year’s tournament organized by Germany.
