ATP Tour: Casper Ruud Slams System and Calendar After Exit Roland Garros

A double French Open Finalist Casper Ruud said that the ATP ranking system was like “racing systems”, because the players felt forced to compete in the mandatory tour events even if they wore injuries.

Seventh seed Ruud crashed from France open on Wednesday after lose unscreenable Nuno Borges in the second roundWith Norwegian saying he fought with a painful knee that limited his movement.

He asked if the busy calendar was harder to separate and fully healed the injury, the 26-year-old told reporters that the ranking of the player would hit if they skip mandatory events.

“Well, it’s kind of like a race race when it comes to ranking,” He said.

“You feel obligated to play with certain rules that ATP have set up mandatory events.

“You feel like you lose a lot if you don’t show up and play … Penalties are quite difficult, in terms of all others will play, strengthen points and you won’t.”

ATP did not immediately respond to a comment request outside normal working hours.

Ruud also said that the bonus for the end of the player was reduced by 25% if they missed the obligatory event.

“I’m not sure if you are aware of, but if you don’t play a mandatory event, they reduced 25% of your end bonus. The kind of forcing players to appear or ill, ie what I think it is very fair” He added.

Ruud said that he was looking forward to taking a few weeks to heal the injury before returning to the court.

“I’m just looking forward to being like hospitals sometime. Let him really get well and rest and see where I am in a few weeks,” I added.
