British and Irish lions keep out of Australia’s late war after the dominant start to win the first test
British and Irish lions went into a rampant show of the first half in a 27-19 win over Australia in the first trial on Saturday, running in three attempts in the first 41 minutes and holding a late Wallabies attack for a comfortable victory.
Superior in all aspects of the game in the first hour, Lions The marked tries through Sione Tuipulotu, Tom Curry and Dan Sheehan while Finn Russell added nine points from the blow.
Max Jorgensen switched to the first part for Mourning And they improved when they cleaned the bench in the second half, but tried by Carlo Tizzano and Tate McDermott substitutions were very little, too late.
“We are happy with the victory. The game was a hard test match“Said the captain of the lion Maro Ito.”I thought we started well in the first half. We have played a lot of good things.
“Then the second half was a little for him and away from both sides. I think this is a good position for us to be in“
Wallabies, of the submissive rank, made a nervous onset between a cacophony of noise from 52,229 crowds, and Russell gave tourists an early lead with a penalty within the first two minutes.
Russell was in thickness again when the lions then entered Australia 22 in the ninth minute, Scotland Flyhalf taking into account a junction before shaking a broad crossing for Melbourne born to run in the unworthy.
Lion’s center Huw Jones had a scratched test for a double movement 10 minutes later, but Wallabies were poorly treading and rarely threatened to explode by half, let alone scoring.
Jorgensen produced a test from nothing before the half -hour sign, however, tearing a high ball from the hands of the full Hugo Keenan lion and competing away to plunge into the corner.
Flyhalf Tom Lynagh, making a shocked onset of the test, lost the conversion and the lions hastened 17-5 up after the wing curry, controversially chosen in front of Welsh Morgan Captain, powered over the line from the near distance.
Curry’s impressive physicality could have put him in trouble just before the break when he treated Lynagh in the air, but Judge Ben O’Keffe kept his cards in his pocket.
‘Big moments’
Australia’s lining had been malfunctioning the whole game and they paid a prize for it immediately after the break when the lion midfield ran off with the circulatory ball and the fast hands from Curry sent to the Sheehan hooker on the corner.
Russell kept his perfect night from hitting the stroke to extend the lead to 24-5 as coaches began bringing their substitutions.
Australia finally raised sustained pressure on the clock brand, and the center Joseph Sualii took over the line in a collision ball, only for O’Keffe to punish it for not leaving after being withdrawn from the lion’s lions.
Tizzano replacement flank made muscle on his way over the line for a converted attempt to cut the deficit in 24-12 minutes later, but Marcus Smith’s replacement gave the lion a little more a pillow with a 73rd minute penalty.
Wallabies were now attacking with more fluidity, but the impressive defense of the lion was held until one minute from the time Mcdermott passed in line for what was another testimony.
“Is definitely disappointing“Said Wallabies captain Harry Wilson.
“We went in wanting to win, and I feel as if we probably didn’t make our game go there as we would have loved.
“They won some great moments, and that is something we want to do and make sure we do next week“
The second test It’s in Melbourne Cricket Ground next weekend and the series ends at Sydney’s Australia Stadium on August 2.
