Calcio comment: Can Gasperini make Rome click after heroism in Atalanta?
We have all witnessed what Gian Piero Gasperini achieved in Atalanta, something that many can be able to, and maybe should call it a miracle.
There is no debate over the trainer’s skills from Grugliasco – he has been one of the top three managers in Italian football for years. In fact, he began to lay the foundations for something special even before his time in Bergamo, especially during his term in Genius.
In Liguria, the goal was never to win trophies, but rather discovering talent, building a system and helping new players reach their full potential, ultimately turning them into valuable assets that the club could sell for profit. Gasperini has constantly worked with developing talents, helping clubs generate capital profits that can be reinvested.
Atalanta Flowering through his work, along with sports director Giovanni Sartori. There are many players who blossomed under Gasperini, but fought to repeat that form elsewhere. The first two names that come to mind are Gagliardini and Cristante, but the list is long.
Creating talent
Gasperini creates talent. Sometimes he forms it, other times he builds it from scratch, and he does it through a hard ruthless work. In Bergamo, he not only developed talent, but also gave trophies, even raising the Europa League. This would have been unthinkable ten years ago, maybe even five.
With all that they said, the question is no longer “Is Gasperini a high coach?” No doubt, he is. The real question now is: can it repeat that success in Roma?
Some may answer, “Why not?”, Ok, quite right. But the reality is that in Rome, many good ideas have failed to take root. Promising projects have died prematurely, often due to poor organization and lack of competence within the club’s hierarchy. An example? We must not forget the case of Luis Enrique.
He was brought to the capital and quickly devoured from the press and fans, mainly because the board, led by Franco Baldini and Walter Sabatini, failed to protect it or give it peace to work. A colossal loss of talent. He was left to manage a defense composed of Rodrigo Taddei (as a right), Aleandro Rosi, Simon Kjaer, Gabriel Heinze and José ángel, among other things.
Hard hard to read it aloud too, let alone comment on it. Uniuding, the project crashed, along with the dreams of a whole fan.
Rome has also been slow in the transfer market. At any moment, it is taken for Richard RiosWesley, and Evan Ferguson It may be completed, but the pre-season began without any new signature in triforia.
This is a problem, especially for a coach like Gasperini, whose required style requires considerable early work in the physical conditioning of players (and not only that, in fact). His ideas are complex, and the Rome Board, now composed of Ricky Massara and Claudio Ranieri, is not giving him the support he needs.
The main positions to strengthen
At least not yet. The two main positions he specifically sought for reinforcements on the right, aiming for Wesley from Flamengo and midfield, with Rios of treehigh in the list.
The club is also looking for a striker who can raise the level of Artem Dovbyk. The choice seems to be Evan Ferguson, a young talent who now has to put up a difficult time behind him and rediscover the promise he once told.
Moreover, Gasperini will need to strengthen the defense and recover the best versions of Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini. Both may be important next season, but with long breaks of damage, Pellegrini is still sidelined, meaning you will need extra work to reach speed. The Financial Fair Games regulations mean that Rome will have to sell in order to buy, without weakening the team, a task more easily said how much it is done.
There is a lot of work ahead for Massara and Ranieri, and not too long. Once they have done their part, it will be Gasperini’s turn. But for the next season to succeed, the club must stand firmly, despite the early results, or if a key player clashes with his methods.
They have to support it no matter what. In the same way, Atalanta did in the past (for example, with El Papu). Gasperini is a high -level coach, but he is not easy to work with.
He demands many of the players, the staff, the club. However, if the right conditions are in the country, Rome can become a serious contender for a fourth end in Serie A. Next season, it all begins with getting those first signatures on the line. Fans of Rome and Gasperini are waiting.
