David Beckham and Gary Neville lead the new consortium in Salford City Takeover
Salford City have been won by a new ownership group led by former England internationals David Beckham and Gary Neville, who were already investors in the club, said League Two (fourth level) on Thursday).
The ownership group also includes US -based businessman Declan Kelly and Mervyn Davies, president of the British lawn tennis Association. Salford said the purchase involves a commitment to invest in the club, team and their facilities.
Beckham and Neville had invested in the club along with former others Manchester United Nicky Butt teammates, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Philip Neville.
Other members of the so -called ‘class’ 92′ are no longer shareholders, but will have roles in the club.
“I am passionate about Salford. This is a unique partnership with a varied range of minds and expertise, held together by a love love, “ Gary Neville said in a statement.
“Football will come first, however it is critical that we run the club towards sustainability in the next 4-5 years. I can’t wait for the rest of this trip.”
Beckham, who grew up in Salford and also co -operates the football side of the main league Miamisaid: “Salford City is at the heart of his community … There is a rich history and I’m glad I’m part of the next chapter.”
Salford was taken over by members of the ’92’ class in 2014 along with Peter Lim, who is no longer a shareholder after Gary Neville won his actions last year.
Since receiving, the club has won four promotions in five years. They ended up in the two league this season, losing in a place of play off.
The club has nine shareholders that also include Dream Sports Group, Colin Ryan, Frank Ryan, Nick Wooce and Shravin Mittal.
