It was the captain of Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes, the entry to say Ruben Amorim that he was under pressure to go into the final of the Europa League.

Reality is different – even if Amorim cannot explain why.

But he has the feeling that his team is “in a different way” if they can beat Tottenham in Bilbao on Wednesday.

While many believe that it is likely that the counterpart will lose his job, even if Spurs ends their 17-year waiting time for a trophy and claim a place in the Champions League of the next season by winning the Europa League with Old Trafford Faith in Amorim.

This despite the low position of United Premier League, and there is no suggestions that Tottenham will change this view. Rob United of around 100 million GBP will be left for revenue and only for the second time without European football since the English clubs were released back to the competition by the UEFA in 1990.

When asked why he was under pressure, Amorim was about to answer when his captain and Portuguese spoke instead.

“He is. Who told you that he wasn’t?” Laughed Fernandes.

This brought an immediate ripte of Amorim: “He wants my job. He will be a very good coach, but he has to work on his way of thinking. He doesn’t know how to deal with people.”

The manager added: “It is strange because you have some coaches here who lose some games and will be released … It is difficult to explain.

“I think people see what we are trying to do, I think people see that sometimes I think more about the club than to myself.

“People understand, especially the board, that we have many problems that are really difficult in connection.”

United may have hit Fulham of the unused clubs in the Premier League since December and took two points out of their last eight games to lie 16th place in the table, but the club hierarchy believes that Amorim causes changes behind the scenes.

“There are many things we have to change,” he said.

“In this way we do everything in Carrington, recruitment, the academy during the week. It is difficult to point out one thing, and it is not solved by winning the cup.”
