Formula E: McLaren announces exit from the series at the end of the season
McLaren will leave the entire Formula Electric Championship at the end of the 2024-25 season to focus on Formula 1, Indycar and a new Hypercar project from 2027 in the World Cup of Sustainability.
The champions of the royal formula constructors of Formula said in a statement on Friday that the decision, after three seasons in Formula and with a team of racing under the McLaren brand, followed a strategic summary of activities.
“Time is right to explore other opportunities that more closely comply with McLaren Racing’s general strategic direction – including our 2027 entrance to the FIA World Cup,” said McLaren General Director Zak Brown.
“For now, we are focused on defining this great team for future success by working towards providing a new owner.”
A Formula spokesman raised the opportunity to partnership continuing next year.
“We admit that the commercial landscape in Motorsport is dynamic and often subject to change,” the spokesman added. “Despite this development, the team … is already engaged in positive discussions with potential partners and investors.
“We’re sure the team will remain a strong presence in the championship, acting under a new identity if required.”
McLaren took over the British -centered team from Mercedes when the German manufacturer left at the end of 2022 to focus on Formula 1.
The team, sponsored by Neom, Saudi Arabia, was founded in 2019 and developed separately, under the leadership of Ian James, in Formula One McLaren and Indycar dresses. The third is generally after five rounds.
The formula places its global fan base at nearly 400 million.
