Jonathan Milan wins the 17th stage as dominant Tadej Pogacar holds the yellow shirt
Italian Jonathan Milan claimed his second victory in this year’s Tour de France when he won a sprint destroyed by the 17th phase on Wednesday.
Milan It prevailed in a sprint of 10 men after Pelotoni was held after a massive collision with only one kilometer to go while the knights went down the slippery road at a rainy finish in southeast France.
Erytrean Biniam Girmay was followed by the doctors of the race.
Tadej Pogacar Crossed the finish line safely to keep the yellow jersey of the general leader.
“I am really happy and speechless. I must say. After surviving (climbing to Mont Ventoux on Tuesday) I did not survive,” Said Milan, who holds the green shirt for the classification of points.
“I survived all this with the help of my teammates. I really have to practice this because without all this I wouldn’t have been here. Maybe I would have already fallen into one of the (day) climbs.
“So with the help of my teammates every day, we achieved this result. Today was a really difficult phase … We checked what from the beginning, of course, with the help of some other teams. But they helped me even when I fell. In the first climate, in the second, they really did a good pace.”
The French Quentin Pacher and Mathieu Burgudeau as well as Jonas Abrahamsen of Norway and Italian Vincenzo Albanese broke away early, but were little chance against the collective power of Sprinters teams.
With Peloton’s breathing below his neck, Abrahamsen went solo with the remaining 11 km, just to reopen at 4.3 km from the line.
Milan was the strongest in the reduced sprint, exiting Jordi Meeus of Belgium and Tobias Lund Andrese Denmark, who were second and third respectively.
Thursday’s 18th phase is a brutal mountain trip between VIF and Col de la Loza, one of the most frightened climbing in Tour de France.
