Lando Norris insists the title of Formula 1 drivers not only a McLaren battle
Lando Norris could recover the Oscar Piastri’s Formula 1 lead in Spain this weekend, but Briton said the driver championship remained more than just a battle among McLaren teammates.
Both are divided by three points at the top of the ranking after eight of the 24 races and the McLaren champions have set the pace and won six times this year – dish with four in Corrosionare two.
Norris first headed after winning the season-space in Melbourne before giving the Piastri advantage in the fifth round in Saudi Arabia, but closed the gap again by winning in Monaco last Sunday.
Red Bull’s Max VerstappenThe four -time world champion has won twice, but is the third and 25 points behind the piastri.
“It’s a great feeling to be in the championship direction and have more points than everyone, but it’s not something I look at,” Norris told reporters in Circuit de Catalunya on Thursday.
“It’s not something that changes nothing I do every day. It doesn’t change how much I work or what I try to achieve. I just try to win this weekend and I’ll try to win in Montreal and I will try to win in Austria. There is nothing to do with the position I am in.
“I think mathematically maybe the whole network can win the championship. I think there are many options,” he continued.
“Max can still win, I think Ferrari – I expect them to get better in the season.”
Verstappen has won twice this season and Spain is a favorite song, the place where he won for the first time in 2016.
The Dutch driver has won three last Spanish Prix Grands, and four in total, and has been on the podium seven times there.
“Max has been on the podium several times, he has won racing.“Norris said.
Formula 1 also has a change in the front wing rule that comes into force this weekend, with governing fias performing stricter rigidity tests.
McLaren says they do not expect to be touched, but others are receiving a reception and seeing access, with Ferrari even talking about a possible player.
“There are changes here and there, but nothing that will change the way we should do it,” said Norris.
