Lewis Hamilton holding hope for podium at home after qualifying in P5 in Silverstone
Lewis Hamilton was still dreaming of his first podium with Ferrari after qualifying his fifth for his British Grand Prix home on Saturday.
The seven -time world champion had seemed to take his first pole position in nearly two years, but ultimately fell into Silverstone, a circuit where he has an incomparable success record.
He was faster in the second phase, raising the crowd expectations, but then lost the time when it mattered in the top 10 exchanges.
“The newspaper was pretty good at the end and then I lost some time in the last corner, which would probably put me in the front row or at least the third,” said the nine times the British GP winner with McLaren and Mercedes.
“We had right on the edge of the knife I think – besides, I squeezed everything I could get out of the car.”
Ferrari brought a floor update in Austria last weekend and Hamiltonwho won a Sprint race in China, but otherwise has not finished higher than the fourth since Mercedes entry in January, said he was feeling better in the car.
“This song is extraordinary, the crowd has been amazing, but we only needed a little more, like another tenth of car performance just to make us a little closer to the front boys,” He said.
“Of course, I will dream that tonight and try to execute tomorrow,” The 40-year-old said about the podium. “I think the weather will be interesting.”
friend Charles Leclerc Qualified Sixth, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen Poles position before the McLarens leader of the championship Plastic AND Lando Norris.
“The rhythm was there for the first row, but I eventually didn’t work when I needed it. I lost the car in the last two corners and lost a lot of laps,” Leclerc said.
