Man UTD: Ruben Amorim ‘Inspired’ until 1999 Helde in the Europa League victory
It had looked as if United was making convenient progress after the goals of Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot had control in a commanding display in the first half.
But they thrown away the two-goal advantage when Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico record the draw and bring the game into extra time.
Although Lyon had sent Tolisso in the last minute of the normal time, Rayan Cherki gave the French side in the lead before Alexandre Lacazettes sent her through and caused some United fans to leave and beat traffic.
But then came the incredible fight when Bruno Fernande’s’ penalty and Kobbie Maino’s cool finish matters spread before Old Trafford broke out when Harry Maguire went into the winner with further seconds.
“The sounds of the stadium were the best of all time,” added Amorim.
“Some people collect shirts, scarves, but I want to keep this sound, it is the best sound in the world.
“I feel for the people who had to go 4-2 because of the traffic, they are gutted.
“We know that we make ourselves below average and earn all critics, but we have time to do something special this season.”
Maguire agreed that the Old Trafford atmosphere was something that helped the players to increase one of the most memorable comebacks.
“In extra time to go 4-2, it is not good enough to go 4-2, we have opened too much,” he said.
“But we excavated ourselves and showed great spirit, that is what this stadium is doing.”
