Mitchell runs while Lowry Charge and Mcilroy Five Back in Rainy Truist
Keith Mitchell went up to a lead with a stroke after the second rainy round on Friday on the PGA Tour Truist Championship with Shane Lowry making a charge and Rory Mcilroy Five Adrift.
MitchellLooking for his first PGA title since 2019, he fired a three-nin-par 67 to stay on 128 after 36 holes in the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
The 33-year-old American, who fired a low career on Thursday, won his only PGA crown at Honda Classic 2019, but he was a competitor last month in Puntacana.
“Much more ups and downs. The greens were tougher to hit because we had a lot more club, a little more wind and rain,” Said Mitchell.
“Definitely playing more harshly. It didn’t hit so many greens, but I thought my short game was very good. I had to keep my head down and continue moving.”
Ireland seatBritish British Champion British 2019, fired a 65 to attract Mitchell’s kick with Austrian sepp Straka third in 130 and champion defender Mcilroy in a fourth place package to 133 after a 67.
“It was very good,” Said Lowry. “The weather has become a little bad, but I thought it was early, it was not the worst, it wasn’t so much smell. I’m very happy but it is very miserable there for the rest of the boys.”
The heavy afternoon rain forced the course workers to dip the water from some greens between groups to keep the course movable.
The event moved from her usual home to Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina because that course is waiting for the 107th PGA championship next week.
The 90 Mitchell world number responded to a trick in the second with birds in the next three holes and a noise at 11 with birds at 12 and 14.
Lowry, a Mcilroy competitor in Pebble Beach in February, claimed in Masters and thinks he has made a progress in his game.
“There is a consistency in my whole game that has been very good,” Said Lowry. “I think I’m just getting baked as a golf player, taking it rough with quiet, good days taking good and bad days working through them.”
Mcilroy made six birds and three bogeys, responding twice to Bogeys with birds in the next hole, to divide the fourth with South Korea Kim Si-Woo and Americans Justin ThomasAkshay Bhatia, Collin Morikawa AND Patrick Cantlay.
The second ranking Mcilroy, in his first solo event since winning the masters to complete the Grand Slam career, is playing his latest PGA tune next week in Quail Hollow, where he has won four times.
‘A little bored’
The five -time big champion, a winner at Pebble Beach and players besides the masters this season, is happy with PGA preparations, but there is more work to do.
“I’ve set nicely, which was good to see,” Mcilroy said. “I’ve seen my lines well the first two days.
“My focus is good. I made some non -characteristic mistakes during the first days a day compared to how I played most of this year.
“If I could just iron them out – it would be nice to go out there and not have to bump so much – if I can clean the cards over the weekend, I’ll be in a good place run in Quail Hollow.”
