Armstrong added: “I think it could be a turning point for you for the next season and I think you will earn about 100 million pounds.

“With this in mind, I think that you can take the top six or seven in the table for the next season, and fans will look forward to it and obviously play the Champions League football.”

While he admitted that it was not a match that he would remember for his excellent football, it was believed that Spurs in the San Mames Stadium excited a solid team effort.

“The Back Four looked really solid. I was a bit worried about the goalkeeper, but he made three or four great parades. At night it was a good team performance, everyone worked hard.

“I hadn’t expected that they would defend so deep so deeply. I thought they might have staged a few more counterattacks and put a little more advanced.

“What kind of crazy season, however, was for both sides. It is the lowest thing I can remember them (Spurs), apart from the year in which they relegated in 1976-77. United obviously also fought very hard in the league.

“But this victory will certainly give them trust and faith. I am also happy for so many players who may never get a chance to play in Europe and win a final.”
