President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honored the National Women’s Football Team of Nigeria with national awards and detailed rewards of cash in recognition of their victory in the 2024 African Nation’s Cup.

The president reflected in the emotional moments of the final match, stressing how the team’s performance raised the country’s souls and united the Nigerians together in all spheres of life.

He added: “Your victory represents more than a sports achievement. It is a triumph of courage, determination, discipline and endurance.

“Honestly, I didn’t want to watch the match. I didn’t want to have high blood pressure. But people came in and turned my TV into that canal. When it was 2-0, I was offended very much and worried.

“But I was still looking at the spirit of resistance, determination and courage. And after that punishment, my strength arose, and I believe that the nation was also raised.

“But you almost made me more angry because your mother (First Lady) was in the kitchen, almost abandoning my dinner.

“She doesn’t watch the game except when the girls are playing. And at the end of the last whistle was joy all over the country.”
