Scrum Half of Gordon ready to reopen in Australia after failed transfer to Perpignan

Half of Wallabies Jake Gordon is ready to rebuild on the Australian Rugby after a planned overseas move was blocked by the National Sports Federation.

New South Wales Waratahs captain was rejected an early release from his rugby Australia Contract last year, disrupting his offer to play for the French side Pivot.

Gordon He said on Friday that he was no longer looking abroad, but rather focusing on the inner front with Wallabies and Warlatahs.

“A little little changed from probably the last time I wanted to go to the offshore,” Gordon told reporters in Sydney.

“I really liked time with Wallabies last year and I really liked my time with Joe (Schmidt). He was really good for my development at level.”

Wallabies coach Schmidt revived Gordon’s test career last year after half back was abducted by Eddie Jones during the second start of the former coach in 2023.

Schmidt announced this week that he would extend his mandate until mid -2026 before making his way to Les Kiss.

Gordon said he liked how Schmidt had kept the simple things for him and had offered direct feedback.

“He is someone who has been seen very much over time and his credentials speak for themselves,” the 31-year-old said.

“When you get into those environments, you just want to absorb all the knowledge you can get and he was a guy who thought there was a really good balance between showing what you expect from you as a player and he is a good blow on the field too.”

Gordon will make his first appearance for Waratahs in two months in their Super Rugby Pacific match against Do brumbies in Canberra on Saturday.

Waratahs need a win to keep in the sixth search of money to compete in play off but they have not beaten brumbies in Canberra in their last seven games and haven’t even won somewhere outside Sydney this season.

“We probably didn’t do the way we wanted to leave home,” Gordon said.

“We’ve played some really good at home, but yes, we’re looking for a really good result this weekend.”
