Singapore 2025: New No. as Victor Johansson of Sweden Fourth in 400 million with free men
Sweden has been closely missing a medal on the day of opening events at the Aquatics 2025 World Championship in Singapore, as Victor Johansson ended the fourth in 400 million with free men, breaking the national record twice in the process.
The Swedes have medals in the pool at every World Championship for nearly four decades, but are 25 times world medals and winners of the Olympic medal six times Sarah Sjostromwhich is pregnant.
But the fear of that long end of the coin approached the first day in Singapore, only to lose Johansson in the bronze medal for two seconds.
The 26-year-old has never won a large old medal, but has produced the result of his career by swimming 3: 45.26 in Heats, a new national record.
However, this was just the sixth fastest time of the eight qualifiers, so the Nassjo man is likely to need to improve his performance in the final.
This is exactly what he delivered, shaving his time for half a second to improve the Swedish record in 3: 44.68.
But it was still 2.08 seconds after the South Korean Kim Woo-mine, which ended the third after Germany’s winner, Lukas Martens, 3: 42.35 of which was two snakes of one second faster than Australia’s Samuel Short, who had to choose for silver.
Johansson will return to the pool in the coming days for the 800 and 1500m freestyle.
Elsewhere, there was disappointment for Louise Hanson, who failed to do it through the heat of one of her strongest events, 100 million women butterflies.
A time of 58.64 was more than 2.4 seconds in her personal best and after compatriot Sara Junevik, who lost the semifinal with 0.15 seconds.
Daniel Kertes and Thilda Hall were eliminated in the heat of 100 million men for men and freestyle 400 million of women, respectively.
