Thailand planning to submit the offer to wait for the Formula 1 race in 2028

Thailand is planning an effort to host a race on Formula One Street in its capital, Bangkok, in 2028 and will seek the approval of the cabinet for its proposal next week, a government official said on Monday.

Prime Minister Thai Paetongarn Shinawatra, who attended Grand Prix at Monaco at the weekend, will propose a “sustainable F1”, said government spokesman Jiriyu Houngsub, adding that race officials had responded positively.

He said the bid proposal and the results of a feasibility study will be submitted to the cabinet on June 4 before continuing.

No specific details were given about the sustainability of the plan, but Jirayu said the proposed race in Bangkok would be environmentally friendly and aims to attract investments in green technology along with Motorsport.

Formula One already has a 24-race-crowded schedule worldwide, with four in the Asia-Pacific region, including Grand Prix of Singapore in Southeast Asia.

Waiting for the race will help promote tourism, a leading driver of Thailand’s economy, Jirayu said.

Thailand has previous experience waiting for a round of the Motogp Motogling World Championship on its accredited road in FIA to Buriram in the northeast of the country.

Thailand’s announcement follows Paetongar’s earlier talks with Formula chief Stefano Domenicali in March.

Thailand sees the opportunity to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix in the future as a key initiative to set up our profile as a center for international tourism and global events“Paetongtarn said on social media over the weekend after a meeting with Prince Albert, Monaco.
