Willits of Washington of Washington becomes the newest new choice in MLB Draft History History

Nationals Washington made history on Sunday at night during the 2025 mlb draft when they chose the short step Eli Willits with the general choice No. 1.

Switch-Hitter from Fort Cobb-Broekton high school and Oklahoma became the newest choice number one in the draft MLB in 17 years, 7 months.

“I am just excited and grateful for citizen Organization to give me this chance, ” Said Willits. “I’m just ready to go there and go to work.”

Willits is now the general selection of NAT NATS No. Bryce Harper (2010) and the former world series’s initial team Stephen Strasbourg (2009).

The move came just a week after the nationals, who have not made the Play -off since winning the 2019 World Series, shot the general manager Mike Rizzo and the Martinez manager. Assistant General Manager Mike Debartolo was appointed temporary general manager while Bench’s coach Miguel Cairo was promoted in a temporary manager.

Willits, whose father Reggie played parts of six seasons with Los Angeles Angels From 2006-11, it was the newest perspective in draft in 17 years, seven months.

Other national elections from the first three rounds of Sunday evening included Ethan Petry (of, South Carolina) and Landon Harmon (P, High School of the Eastern Union attendance center).
