Wimbledon’s former surprise Paka Van Rijthoven was forced to retire on 28
Tim Van Rijthoven was forced to withdraw from tennis at the age of 28 after failing to recover from a constant elbow injury, Dutch said.
Van rijthoven arrived at Wimbledon’s fourth round as wild postcard in 2022 before it is lost Novak Djokovicand triumphed in ‘s-hertogenbosch after defeating that two world number Daniil Medvedev in the final.
He reached a high ranking in the career of the world number 101 in 2022, but the loss of form and damage saw him fall out of 350 next year.
“Due to a constant injury to the elbow that is not healing enough, despite all the rehabilitation and medical procedures, I am forced to say goodbye to the sport I have lived all my life,” Van Rijthoven posted on social media late Tuesday.
The beating of Medvedev to win his first ATP title in 2022 in front of his fans at home would remain one of the “most beautiful moments” of his life, he said.
“And of course the fourth round in Wimbledon, where I had the opportunity to get a living legend: Novak Djokovic in the Center Court,” he added.
“That I have to stay at that stage is something that no one will ever remove from me.”
